Pregnancy Care

From confirmation and monitoring,
our care and support continues until
we are able to discharge you back
to your own doctor

INTRODUCTION
After successful treatment and you have taken a positive pregnancy test, we hope that you will feel elated but understand that this wonderful moment can often be accompanied with feelings of anxiety about what will happen now.
Anxiety about miscarriage is also entirely normal at this time, but please acknowledge that your fears are no different than those of women who fall pregnant naturally.  What is most important is that you are kind to yourself, look after your health and general well being and enjoy every moment of your pregnancy, after all, you’ve been through a lot to get here.
What happens now?
Your pregnancy should progress as any normal pregnancy unless we are already aware of any specific medical complications, in which case, please rest assured that these will be closely monitored and your consultant will discuss any specifics of your ongoing care.

Our care and support will continue until such time as we are able to discharge you back to your own doctor for antenatal care. This includes confirming your pregnancy and monitoring with blood tests to check that your hCG and progesterone hormones are rising accordingly and we will schedule two scans to monitor your baby’s development.

You will be advised to keep taking any injections or medications as instructed by your consultant or nurse, as these not only increased your chances of conceiving but they continue to play a vital role in sustaining a healthy pregnancy.

In the very first three months of any pregnancy, the emphasis is on looking after yourself.

  • As with any pregnancy, it is important to get into healthy habits, eat well, drink plenty of water and if you haven’t already done so, reduce your alcohol and caffeine intake and stop smoking; as these can have an adverse effect on baby’s development.
  • Listen to your body – If you feel tired, take the time to rest or have a nap. The first trimester of any pregnancy can feel exhausting as your body starts to adapt and prepare you for your family. Let’s be honest – it’s incredibly hard work growing a small human inside of you.
  • Don’t panic if you see any signs of bleeding in early pregnancy but if you need reassurance, call the clinic to speak to a nurse or your consultant. We can allay any fears or have you back in to address any concerns you may have.
  • Do remember that our team and counsellors are here to support you. Don’t hesitate to contact us or book an appointment to come in if you feel the need to.
