Professor Joyce Harper PhD, FRCPath

Joyce has been working in the fields of IVF and reproductive genetics since 1987. After completing her PhD at Kings College London, she worked as the Laboratory Director at the London Fertility Centre with Ian Craft and then joined the Hammersmith Hospital preimplantation genetic diagnosis (PGD) team in 1992.

In 1993 she started a joint post with the Hammersmith PGD team and Joy Delhanty at University College London. She helped run the clinical PGD programme at UCL for 20 years. As well as being a successful scientist with over 150 publications, Joyce has a passion for education.

In 1996 she set up the MSc programme in Prenatal Genetics and Fetal Medicine, and another MSc in 2009: Reproductive Science and Women’s Health. She is the Institute for Women’s Health Director of Education and the Faculty Graduate Tutor.She has published over 150 scientific papers and written two text books, been a member of the key international scientific boards involved in fertility, and set up the Embryology and PGD Academy in 2014 to deliver hands on training in IVF and PGD and set up a public engagement group to discuss women’s health issues, Global Women Connected, in 2015.

Since August 1st 2016 she is the head of the Reproductive Health Department in the Institute for Women’s Health. Since 2007 Joyce has been a Fellow Royal College Pathologists and Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.
