Our Pride Month Message: Celebrating LGBTQ+ Families at IVF London

The month of June brings Pride across the UK, and here at IVF London, it means something just as personal to us as well.

We get to watch LGBTQ+ people build families in all sorts of different ways, and we never get tired of that.

So here’s our Pride Month message, said plainly: you belong here, and your family counts just as much as anyone else’s.

Where Pride Actually Started

On 28 June 1969, police raided the Stonewall Inn in New York City, and the people inside had had enough.

That night kicked off the modern LGBTQ+ rights movement. Three years later, on 1 July 1972, around 2,000 people marched through London for the UK’s first Pride.

We bring this up because the rights you rely on now, when you’re starting your family, weren’t handed to anyone.

People fought for them, and a few of those people are likely sitting in our waiting room right now, or were once.

Pride gives us a reason to remember that, and to ask ourselves what we owe you because of it.

What Makes a Fertility Clinic LGBTQ+ Friendly

Calling yourself an LGBTQ+ fertility clinic in London is easy.

Living up to it is the part that takes work, and it shows in the small things, not just the big policy statements.

We Ask Instead of Guessing

Your family doesn’t have to look like anyone else’s, and we don’t expect it to.

You might be a lesbian couple looking into donor sperm. You might be a gay man building your family with a surrogate.

You might be trans or non-binary, working out how treatment fits around your own transition.

Whatever your situation is, we ask you directly rather than assuming we already know.

We Explain the Law in Plain Terms

UK law gives LGBTQ+ people real, solid paths to becoming parents, and we make sure you actually understand them, not just sign forms blindly.

Here’s what that looks like:

  • If you give birth to your child, you’re automatically their legal mother.
  • If you’re married or in a civil partnership when you start treatment with donated sperm, your partner automatically becomes the child’s second legal parent too, even with no biological link to the baby.
  • If you’re not married or in a civil partnership, your partner only becomes the second legal parent once you’ve both signed the right consent form before treatment starts.
  • The Equality Act 2010 protects you from discrimination over your sexual orientation or gender reassignment at every stage of your care with us.

We sit down and go through every form with you, so nothing catches you off guard halfway through.

The Fertility Treatments We Offer LGBTQ+ Patients

You’ve got real choices at IVF London, including:

Every one of these runs through the same HFEA-regulated process that protects every patient in the UK, no exceptions based on who you are or who you love.

Why We Keep Showing Up for LGBTQ+ Patients

Fertility care was never supposed to belong to one type of family only, even though it sometimes felt that way for a long stretch of time.

When we say we want to be the best LGBTQ+ fertility clinic in London, we don’t mean it as a slogan.

We mean the way our team listens to you, the language we use with you, and the choices we lay out for you, all built with your family in mind from the start.

You Don’t Have to Do This Quietly

Building a family takes more than appointments and scans.

It takes a toll on your emotions, especially when people around you don’t fully get what you’re going through.

We offer counselling with practitioners who understand LGBTQ+ experiences specifically, and we can connect you with support groups full of people who’ve been exactly where you are.

If anything during treatment feels too heavy to carry alone, tell us. That’s what we’re here for, not just the medical part.

Standing With You, This Month and Beyond

This June, and honestly every month after it, we’re standing with our LGBTQ+ patients.

The ones who’ve already had their babies here, the ones mid-treatment right now, and the ones who haven’t walked through our door yet.

We hope this place feels like somewhere you can actually settle in and be yourself.

If you’d like to talk through your options with us, book an initial consultation with IVF London whenever you’re ready.

We’ll be here this June and every month after it.
