Emotional Support During Fertility Treatment
1 in 6 couples experience difficulty conceiving and this can have a significant impact on mental health and wellbeing. In fact it has been reported 50% of people have found it the most distressing experience of their lives.
Research also shows 80% experience stress, 90% feel depressed, 42% have suicidal thoughts, and 1 in 4 experience PTSD after a miscarriage. In fact, emotional distress is the most common reason for people to stop fertility treatment altogether. Therefore there is a need for clinicians to include emotional support during fertility treatment.
At IVF London we understand the importance of mental health for individuals, couples and outcome of treatment. We have a holistic team of professionals, ready to help you, in whatever way you resonate with.
This is part of our commitment to the Patient Pledge by Fertility Network UK.
We provide Supportive Counselling: the first optional session is included in the treatment package and is readily available as a resource for you and your partner to request at any time whilst you are on your fertility journey. It is really important that you are able express the feelings of sadness, loss and anger freely in a confidential environment with the support of someone who understands what you’re going through.
We also offer Implications Counselling: this is a mandatory requirement for both partners at IVF London when seeking treatment using donated gametes or embryos. This is a pre-treatment session that is required to help you and your partner understand the social, ethical and legal implications of receiving a donated eggs, sperm or embryos. Implications counselling is included within your treatment package.
Fertility Coaching provides patients with in depth knowledge of what to expect, how the cycle will progress and the associated emotional states that you will experience as you proceed through your treatment cycle. The emotional journey is a very important aspect of your treatment cycle. At IVF London we incorporate this as an integral part of your treatment plan.
Coaching sessions will provide you with tools and strategies:
- to assist you through the emotional journey,
- eliminate any limiting beliefs
- and give you a clear mindset.
We host a support group meeting that happens once a month. It is open to everyone who might need support, even those who are not receiving treatment at the clinic. If you are local and need a safe space to talk and share your experiences with others going through similar journeys, get in touch.
